Uh, as a side note, my first memory with koi ponds is having some bratty kid rub fish food into my hair and toss me into the koi pond.... Its a wonder I dont have a phobia of fish.
Beautiful! What medium is this? Exquisite detail! I especially like the fish. My only gripe is that she's not looking at the fish - she's just staring out into space and dropping food.
Hehe... yes, I'd be grateful for not having a fear of fish too after such an event. Beautiful work, very nice on the reflections on the pond, and it's nice how her tail forms that little curve that keeps things moving in the picture. The bridge is pretty interesting too, in that it actually takes your eyes off the piece for just a moment, but one's brain completes the arc (as we all know bridges like that come down again), and returns on the reflection...
But, for picky notes: On the bridge, the top (that is, rightmost) segment, bottom two rungs of the handrail (and assocaited reflection), I'm seeing two joins in the reflection but only seeing one on top. And we might be seeing a bit more of the bottom of the bridge from the lowered perspective that we get from the lake's surface than you have... but not very much given how close to the lake we are now.
Another note that's hit me looking over it. The rocks under Echo look kinda like they're just a texture painted on the surface still... I think a bit more shadowing on them might be in order. Hrmmm... ah, that's it. Her feet look like they're completely up in the air, can hardly see any shadow coming from them at all. We're apparently dealing with mid-day, and few clouds in the sky, so there's pretty direct sunlight... she'd be casting a much harder shadow. Were it overcast, what you've got would be pretty accurate, maybe a little darker behind her but not much so...
Amazing work as always. Great detailing in the colors; they make the image seem almost computer generated. The character is gorgeous and so is the background! This image just makes you feel at peace by looking at it.
Hmmm.. :looks closely: I might be able to fix that bridge... with a little acrylic paint. and the shadow is something that could easily be made bolder... Thanks for pointing that out to me . In the original, also, more of the bridge is visible - my scanner cuts off the edges of the pic because i'm working on 9x12 paper.. so the 'visual loop' of the bridge is more complete even in the original .
Excellent point!... At first I was thinking I could move her irises down a little (little white paint over the top of the irises and lower the pupil... but I was thinking thats probably how someone with a neckbrace would look down... she'd actually in reality have her head tilted downward looking at the fish... and its too late to make that big of a change...Guess I got too caught up in the details of the background that I missed some of the fundamentals ^.^,
Well, theres always something to improve upon Thanks
Yoit - completely forgot to answer your question....@.@ The medium is mixed... but it includes watercolor, marker, colored pencil, ink and acrylic ink... on bristol board... The areas where the color is brighter and more solid are marker with colored pencil on top (the character, sky above the clouds, and dark water) and the more subtle natural colors are done with watercolor and colored pencil on top (plants, rocks, reflections, wood) On the yukata I used a brown micron to outline the design... and on the characters face I used a black micron to outline some of the major details of the face.. And the white highlights like on the bridge, off the water, on her tail, etc. are done with white acrylic ink. . When I color a piece, I normally dont have a plan as to how its going to be done.. I just use whatever media I have at my disposal that seems like it would produce the color or effect I desire.
Okie, I fixed the shadow under the feet and did a little tweaking on the bridge - but now my scanner power cord is malfunctioning @.@... I need to replace that then I'll scan the updated image
Whoa...this has got to be one of the best pieces I've seen from you over the years. A lot of work had to go into both Echo and the landscape around her! So much detail and color, it's incredible. Definitely well done and deserving of a Fave. It also reminds me to visit the tea garden near where I recently moved to one of these days!
